Cost Accounting Specialist

The Cost Accounting Specialist is responsible for partnering with plant and corporate teams to analyze and improve manufacturing costs, ensuring accurate production job costing and timely daily job closures. The role analyzes variances, job profitability, inventory costing, and overhead spending while supporting cost rolls, BOM reviews, and standard cost updates. This position also performs month‑end close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, and leads on-site cost accounting process improvements across functions. What You’ll Do Partner with plant and corporate teams to improve cost visibility, review/close production jobs daily, and ensure accurate job and inventory costing. Analyze variances, job profitability, and manufacturing performance, collaborating with Production to identify root causes and drive improvements. Support cost rolls, BOM analysis, standard cost updates, and investigate cost issues with Production, Engineering, and Purchasing. Strengthen financial processes, track manufacturing variances, and support accurate reporting across the business. Perform month‑end close activities, including journal entries, overhead analysis, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations. Lead on‑site cost accounting process improvements and cross‑functional projects to enhance operational efficiency and product costing. What We’re Looking For Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. +3 years of hands-on accounting experience in a manufacturing or product-based company. Proficient in core accounting processes: preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end close. Experience preparing or interpreting trial balances and financial statements. Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Strong Excel skills. What Will Set You Apart Demonstrated ability to independently manage workload, ask the right questions, and deliver accurate results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate or present information, both written and verbally, effectively with all levels of the organization. Analytical, detail-oriented, and excited to apply your accounting skills in a hands-on, collaborative manufacturing environment. Experience with SAP ERP systems is a plus.
