Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Cyber Security Analyst to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team. This is a unique opportunity for a talented professional to play a critical role in safeguarding BTC’s extensive digital infrastructure, customer data, and operational continuity from evolving cyber threats. As a remote, full-time Cyber Security Analyst, you will be instrumental in monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to security incidents across our diverse IT and network environments. You will work within a collaborative cybersecurity team, leveraging advanced tools and methodologies to maintain a strong security posture for one of Botswana's most vital telecommunications providers.

Your expertise will be crucial in conducting proactive security assessments, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing robust security controls to mitigate risks. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to security. You will be expected to stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends, threat landscapes, and regulatory requirements, translating this knowledge into actionable security enhancements. While working remotely, you will be fully integrated into our security operations, participating in regular virtual meetings and contributing to strategic security initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor security systems (SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls) for alerts, anomalies, and potential security incidents.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of security events, logs, and network traffic to identify, investigate, and remediate security breaches.
  • Execute vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits to identify weaknesses in systems, applications, and networks.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain security policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to the incident response lifecycle, including detection, containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident analysis.
  • Research and stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies to advise on proactive security measures.
  • Collaborate with IT and network operations teams to ensure security controls are effectively integrated and maintained.
  • Provide security awareness training and guidance to internal staff to foster a security-conscious culture.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S) and network security architectures (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
  • Proficiency in incident response methodologies and digital forensics principles.
  • Knowledge of common attack vectors, malware analysis, and threat intelligence.
  • Familiarity with operating systems security (Windows, Linux/Unix).
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH, CySA+, or CISSP.
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry or a similar critical infrastructure sector.
