Summary\:

The Director - Operations reports to the Division Vice President, and is responsible for a geographic territory of pipeline, compressor, and measuring facilities.  Through subordinate positions, incumbent provides support to Region, Division and Department activities associated with transporting, and delivering natural gas. Responsible area in Florida includes multiple compressor stations and approximately 1500 miles of gas transmission piping varying from 4” to 36” diameter. Average size of staff is 45. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities\:

  • Responsible for the oversight and management of Area activities.  Areas of focus include safety, compliance, reliability, employee development, and project execution. 
  • With subordinates and Division staff, establish goals and objectives to accomplish transportation of requires volumes of gas, operations and maintenance, staffing levels, job performance and facility changes to meet Area, Division and Department goals. 
  • Position responsible for a wide range of natural gas projects and requires a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Analytical, problem solving, decision-making, communications, and operations management skills required.
  • Must possess self-motivation and initiative to recognize, analyze and recommend alternative solutions to problems and issues.
  • Requires good verbal and written interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of clients, peers, and management, both internal and external.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis including variance reporting, currency risk, and bid evaluation.
  • Demonstrating organizational excellence in safety, quality, delivery, cost and organizational development.
  • Proactively working to reduce EH&S risks and promoting safe behaviors in the workplace while not impacting the environment.
  • Defining and implementing new directives to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the area.
  • Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Building and managing a team of professionals, driving employee engagement, positive culture and execute strategic workforce planning initiatives.
  • Effectively manage an operations region in a manner consistent with Company and government requirements.
  • Participates with top operations management in the establishment of company operations related goals, expense budgets, capital budgets, objectives and plans.
    Establishes and assures implementation of regional operations and administrative objective and plans.
  • Develops and manages an effective organization and directs all regional operations, maintenance and technical service activities in a manner which meets system requirements and/or contractual commitments in a safe, efficient manner in compliance with operational and technical standards and governmental codes and regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other regions and organizations associated with operations as well as key personnel associated with corporate and regulatory agencies.
  • Fosters good customer and community relations in work area.
  • Directs investigations and complaints from landowners, customers, and suppliers.
  • Directly supervises operations managers, and region administrative personnel.
  • Adhere to high ethical standards, function effectively as a team player, and lead other to do the same.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below\:

  • 12+ years of experience in the natural gas industry in the area of Operations. Some of which should involve time spent in natural gas transmission.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of safety requirements and procedures relating to all aspects of the operation.
  • Proven knowledge of the 49CFR192 regulations applicable to natural gas transmission.
  • General knowledge of the environmental regulations related to gas compression.
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and independently.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to detect problems and make corrections quickly
  • Ensure that all maintenance and construction activities are completed in compliance with established company and industry standards and procedures.

Preferred Skills\:

  • Demonstrated experience in supervising management level employees with outstanding interpersonal skills.
