Electrical Engineer

Introduction

Grindrod Terminals is looking for a seasoned Electrical Engineer. This role is suited to a highly skilled Electrical Engineering professional with strong technical expertise in power reticulation systems, including switchgear, transformers, and protection systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge of power reticulation systems including switchgear, transformers and protection.
  • Know and understand the applicable laws and regulations and the requirements of specific environment.
  • Develop technical/design specification documents for tender purposes.
  • Major shutdown scope development and tender administration for contracted works. 
  • Responsible for execution of Electrical projects.
  • Continuously raises initiatives to improve maintenance performance and procedures.
  • Ensures that the process of Engineering Change is adhered, according to company standards.
  • Keeps and maintains all SHEQ related project documentation.
  • Signs off timesheets of both internal and outsourced staff on projects.
  • Ensures compliance with all SHERQ activities in the section [safety, health, environment, risk, and quality].
  • Conducts risk assessments for all major work.
  • Ensure contractor safety files are always up to date and relevant.
  •  Assists Maintenance in compliance and rectify deviations on Internal and External Plant Audits.
  • Ensures work is allocated to staff/contractors and that it is executed correctly and safely.
  • Supervises and manages artisans to obtain efficient and cost-effective equipment levels.
  • Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Labor Law and all other relevant legislation.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • BSc Eng/BTech Electrical Engineering.
  • Formal Project Management Training.
  • 5 to 8 years’ work experience in a similar environment. Must come from heavy industry with either mining or materials handling exposure. 
  • Exposure to Supervisory duties.
  • Keyboard and PC skills and knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing packages and SAP PM.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001 and 55001.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Results oriented.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary maintenance team.
