Fire Shift Commander
<div style="text-align: justify;"><strong style="color: inherit;font-style: normal;text-align: justify;text-indent: 0.0px;">REQUIRED ATTACHMENT: Verification of completion of the Commander Academy portion of the Shift Commander Task Book issued by the Yakima Fire Department <u>MUST BE ATTACHED</u> to your application.</strong></div><br><strong>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS</strong><div style="text-align: justify;"><div style="text-align: justify;">To act or promote to Shift Commander candidates must have minimum of five (5) years of service with the Yakima Fire Department as Company Officer and have completed probation as a Captain. Candidates must also have successfully completed the Commander Academy portion of the Shift Commander Task Book issued by the Yakima Fire Department.</div><br></div><strong>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES</strong> <br>Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License (United States) and a current EMT certificate.<p data-pasted="true" style="text-align: justify;">Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, is<strong><em> </em></strong>responsible for directing and coordinating the fire suppression activities of the department on an assigned shift to ensure the firefighting readiness of all personnel and equipment on a shift through subordinate officers. Performs administrative and command functions as assigned.</p><p data-pasted="true" style="text-align: justify;">Plans, directs, and coordinates the fire suppression activities. Responds to fire alarms and other emergencies; directs and coordinates fire suppression efforts unless relieved by a superior officer; reviews reports prepared by subordinate officers; expands or prepares reports and transmits to Fire Chief. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Supervises, through subordinate officers, personnel and equipment on an assigned shift; ensures that the shift efficiency is maintained. Ensures full fire readiness of assigned shift; makes inspections and evaluations of personnel, equipment and facilities. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Performs special administrative staff assignments and assumes command of the department in the absence of the Chief and/or Deputy Fire Chiefs. Attends meetings commensurate to position responsibilities. Work is occasionally performed in an office environment while sitting or standing for periods of time. Constant use of all senses including feeling/talking/hearing/seeing while performing duties and while communicating with co-workers, general public and completing all tasks as assigned. Constant use of both hands in reaching/ handling/grasping/fingering/pushing/pulling while performing duties.
