Group Product Manager – Data Collection

Job Description The Role At General Motors, we empower Product Managers to solve challenging customer and business problems. We seek innovative leaders who can collaborate across product, engineering, operations, design, and policy teams to deliver solutions that accelerate autonomy and advanced safety technologies. As a Group Product Manager for Data Collection, you will define and lead GM’s end‑to‑end strategy for collecting high‑quality data at scale across both dedicated data collection vehicle (DCV) fleets and the broader retail portfolio. You will own the vision, roadmap, and execution model for how GM acquires, prioritizes, measures, and governs the data required to advance assistive and autonomous driving systems. Your remit spans the entire ecosystem of data sources including: designing high‑efficiency fleet strategies, developing operational tooling solutions, and deploying collection policies and experiences in retail vehicles. You will also be partnering with engineering teams to ensure collected data meets the fidelity, volume, compliance, and cost targets required for model development and validation. Success requires strong technical judgment, principled tradeoff‑making, and the ability to influence senior leaders across autonomy, safety, engineering, operations, and finance. What You’ll Do Own the long‑term product vision and roadmap for GM’s multi‑modal data collection ecosystem, covering DCV fleets, retail vehicle data capture, and all associated tools, workflows, and infrastructure. Lead GM’s data collection initiatives for autonomous and supervised driving, ensuring that data acquisition supports development, evaluation, validation, and fleet operations goals. Optimize GM’s dedicated data collection fleets, including hardware configurations, sensor packages, operating models, routing strategies, and coverage planning. Define and drive the retail data collection strategy, from instrumentation and triggers to consent mechanisms, customer experience considerations, governance, and policy compliance. Identify gaps and tradeoffs in data quality, throughput, coverage, operational cost, and developer productivity—and lead initiatives to close them. Drive a metrics‑based operating model, establishing and managing KPIs for data utility, completeness, cost efficiency, fleet productivity, and end‑to‑end data latency. Translate autonomy and safety team requirements into clear product requirements and prioritization frameworks for both fleet‑based and retail‑based data capture. Communicate program status, decisions, and insights to senior leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders. Build and lead a team of data‑focused product managers, mentoring them and cultivating a culture of operational rigor, innovation, and customer‑obsessed prioritization. Stay ahead of industry technology and regulatory trends related to vehicle data, consent, privacy, sensing hardware, and model‑driven data strategies. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 10+ years of product management or related industry experience. 2+ years of managing teams Proven experience with technical product management and leading the entire product lifecycle from concept to introduction. Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data. Excellent presentation abilities to drive a concrete vision and rally the team. Proven oral and written communication skills; ability to become fluent in technical concepts and explain to non-technical partners Comfortable with complex and ambiguous problems and situations, and adept at identifying a project’s risks Enthusiastic and resilient in a constantly evolving environment where creative solutions are the norm.
