Lead Supplier Development Engineer, Thermal

Role Summary:
Utilizing Rivian processes based on industry standards from VDA and AIAG, the Lead Supplier Development Engineer – Thermal will be responsible for managing the quality performance of our energy storage system supply base.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplier advanced product quality planning (APQP).
- Current knowledge of the latest state of the art for automotive lithium ion batteries, battery module and battery pack suppliers
- Deep understanding of functional safety (ISO 26262) and embedded software development requirements (Automotive SPICE)
- Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements
- Lead the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities and Health, Safety and Environmental risks
- Support new product launches to ensure that supplier quality meets the required standards
- Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of supplier quality issues
- Perform on-site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of supplier quality issues
- Promote the use of Rivian preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean, Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of supplier quality, quality, or engineering experience
- 3+ years of Thermal and/or Energy Storage Systems/Battery experience
- Technical expertise in Battery and associated electrical components and processes
- Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part
- Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Run at Rates
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally with no restrictions on location
