Position Overview

With a start date of August 15, 2026, this position will join the Akin Learning Center team as a Learning Center Teacher. This full-time, 10-month teaching position will involve one-on-one and small group academic coaching with high school-level neurodiverse learners. The position will also include serving as an advisor to a small group of students, actively participating in the residential life program, and supervising two seasons of afternoon activities.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be:

  • an educator who can successfully support students within and across specific content areas as they develop study skills and grow executive functioning strategies
  • committed to developing in all Kents Hill students the kinds of sophisticated problem-solving and critical-thinking strategies needed for success beyond secondary education
  • able to collaborate with classroom teachers to support positive learning strategies for neurodiverse learners, understand students strengths and challenges, and ensure that classroom accommodations are understood and met
  • skilled and professional at maintaining contact with families and educational consultants to inform of student progress
  • able to consult with the Director of Student Learning Support on the development of individual learning plans for Learning Center students
  • culturally competent with skills for engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • passionate about the pursuit of their own personal growth through professional development
  • enthusiastic about contributing to a shared culture of high expectations and continuous growth– for students, colleagues, and yourself
  • committed to the boarding school student experience and excited to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. Typically, this includes: 
    • residing in campus housing and engaging in all facets of residential life
    • advising a group of students
    • involvement in afternoon and extracurricular activities

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • experience with teaching learning strategies and academic coaching of high school students
  • knowledge and training in learning differences and interventions
  • excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
  • the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and external partners
