AOC : Open, with preference for A.I. Ethics, Neuroethics,
Philosophy of Race, Feminist Philosophy, Environmental Ethics,
Philosophy of Law, and/or Social and Political Philosophy.
The Department of Philosophy at Georgia State University ( GSU ) in
Atlanta, GA, seeks applications for an anticipated position as a
Lecturer. Start date: Fall 2026. The Department is home to a
thriving, internationally recognized MA program. GSU is a research
university nationally recognized for its commitment to
undergraduate teaching. Located in the cosmopolitan city of
Atlanta, GSU has one of the most diverse student bodies in the
nation. The University and the Department of Philosophy seeks to
recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars, and we
encourage applications from women and members of underrepresented
groups. Lecturers at GSU are non-tenure-track faculty positions
that are indefinitely renewable and have the opportunity for
promotion to Senior Lecturer and Principal Senior Lecturer, based
on excellence in teaching and appropriate service. Typical teaching
load is 4/4. Roughly half the teaching will be an interdisciplinary
undergraduate course in Biomedical Ethics that draws students from
Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Philosophy. Other courses will
depend on the teaching expertise of the hire and departmental and
university needs.
The Department aims to hire Lecturers long term and has been very
successful retaining Lecturers and promoting them to higher ranks.
Lecturers are full voting members of the Department (except on
decisions regarding tenure-track faculty), and the University and
Department fully supports their professional development. Starting
salary is expected to be approximately $60,000, depending on
experience, with the possibility for additional compensation for
summer teaching (10% per course).

- Ability to teach A.I. ethics, neuroethics, environmental ethics, philosophy of race, feminist philosophy, philosophy of law, and/or social and political philosophy.
- Ability to teach in a variety of modalities.
