NMSI Instructional Coach

Job Details NMSI’s mission is to advance education to ensure that all students, especially those furthest from opportunity, thrive and reach their highest potential as problem solvers and lifelong learners who pursue their passions and tackle the world’s toughest challenges. NMSI is seeking highly successful K-12 teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders inspired by this mission to become our nationally recognized coach corps members. (This is a Temporary Part-time role). NMSI Coaches are passionate educators who strive to learn from others, enjoy supporting teachers, and work to build more equitable opportunities for students in their school communities. NMSI Coaches support our core programs which include the College Readiness Program (Grades 9-12 AP Teachers and AP Students), Laying the Foundation (K-12 Teachers), and Leadership Development (K-12 school and district leaders), by delivering professional development for teachers or content support for students. Although NMSI’s coaches are not school based, they effectively support NMSI’s teachers in the College Readiness Program (CRP) and Laying the Foundation (LTF) program through the following roles: • Learner • Data coach • Resource provider • Mentor • Curriculum specialist • Instructional specialist • Classroom supporter • Learning facilitator • Content developer • Catalyst for change What You Do • Deliver professional development for teachers in both online and in-person environments • Develop, edit, and pilot curricular materials for teachers and students • Promote learning environments anchored in culturally responsive education philosophies • Produce and deliver customized training events for fee-for-service client districts • Develop new educational content, including model activities, lessons, and units for teacher audiences and student audiences • Model teaching strategies and content-driven activities for NMSI stakeholders • Share feedback and insights from training to inform future programming • Serve as an ambassador for NMSI and NMSI’s mission and values to schools, teachers, and students • Promote NMSI in your professional networks and support coach recruitment as needed • Other duties as assigned Qualifications What You Bring • Experience: Deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, and instruction, with at least four years of teaching experience in a given K-12 content/grade band. • College-Readiness Expertise: Strong familiarity and experience with state and national teaching standards as they relate to college-readiness standards, such as AP assessment frameworks, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). • Understand Effective Teaching and/or School Leadership: Immediate understanding of what effective teaching and or school leadership looks like and a deep commitment to the importance of effective and rigorous instruction. • Technology Proficiency: Ability to facilitate a learning experience in an online LMS such as Blackboard, Canvas, and/or arenaflex Classroom. These skills include but are not limited to: • Ability to navigate and create course content in an LMS such as Blackboard and arenaflex Classroom. • Ability to build a learning experience for teachers and students using content authoring tools such as Articulate. • Expert Communicator: The ability to communicate direct feedback compellingly inspires teachers and leaders to make immediate improvements to instruction that will accelerate their students’ achievement—strong written and oral communication skills. • Flexible: You are comfortable working in an ambiguous environment with competing priorities. You have availability and/or flexibility in your schedule to support school-day events, as needed. • Growth Mindset: You learn from failure and crave feedback because you know that it makes you better; you are also eager to give feedback to your manager, team, and colleagues. You are committed to ongoing training and education in adult facilitation. • Committed: Ability to deliver up to 100+ hours of teacher, leader, and/or student-facing events over the course of the program year. Many events occur during the summer and on Saturdays, but some weekday school-year events may need to be facilitated. • Other Preferred Experience: STEM-based learning experience, experience in high-need schools or with high-need populations, and a proven track record of raising student achievement is preferred. AP Reader experience is preferred for Coaches who will work with AP teachers and students. Experience coaching teachers in modifying, adapting, or extending curricula to address student needs better and facilitating professional development What We Offer The minimum hourly rate for this position will be at least $30/hour. We take pay equity seriously and work hard to ensure our team members are paid fairly no matter their gender, race, or other demographic backgrounds. Part-time staff are eligible to participate in 401(k) after 90 days of employment, with up to a 6% employee match, fully vested on day one of participation in the plan.
