Shelter Assistant in Domestic Violence Shelter

(Part-Time - Weekend Nights)

YWCA Evansville is seeking applicants for a part-time, weekend night shelter assistant to work Saturday and Sunday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Position provides an abuse-free and safe environment, assistance with daily needs, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Assistant will be cross-trained to assist in all housing programs.

Ideal candidate will be a self-starter, team player, flexible, and possess an eagerness to learn more about social services. Ideal candidate will also exhibit good written and verbal communication skills, good organizational skills, and attention to detail. This position will work with vulnerable populations and interact with clients and staff in a sensitive, non-judgmental open-minded manner.

STARTING SALARY $16/hour plus $2/hour overnight shift differential

YWCA offers part-time employees an employer-sponsored pension plan and paid time off including mental health days and birthday off. Employees may also contribute to an optional 403(b) retirement plan.

Application

Responsibilities

  • Staff must be alert and awake on their entire shift;
  • Staff will answer crisis line and fill out a Crisis Call sheet for each call;
  • Staff will meet with victims and their children as they enter housing program, complete appropriate intakes, and provide housing orientation and entry services;
  • Staff will be respectful and sensitive to client needs and will maintain client confidentiality;
  • Staff will enter data on each client during their assigned shift in the Client Daily Contact Log;
  • Staff will enter housing program client services into appropriate database;
  • Staff will perform building security checks at assigned times.
  • Assists with front desk duties as needed;
  • Staff must attend a minimum of 10 hours a year of professional development conferences and workshops as recommended and approved by supervisor;
  • Staff are required to attend staff meetings and to keep their CPR/AED/BBP/First Aid certification current;
  • Staff will respond to needs of housing clients in case of emergency;

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; experience in social service field preferred; good communications skills; and ability to interact with others in sensitive, open-minded manner.
