RN | Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE)
The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) delivers compassionate, trauma-informed care to victims and perpetrators of violence, both intentional and unintentional, in a timely and non-judgmental manner.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform nursing acts within the scope defined by the licensing board.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge to provide patient care according to unit competencies, policies, and procedures.
- Assess patient needs accurately and develop, implement, review, and maintain comprehensive care plans.
- Provide care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics to achieve desired outcomes.
- Conduct quality assurance including maintaining chain of evidence, proper documentation, referrals, report preparation and interpretation, and compliance with mandatory reporting.
- Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of examination, treatment, and care.
- Coordinate preparation of documents, testimony, and case facts as needed.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation following organizational policies.
- Meet scheduling requirements including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
- Adhere to privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, outside agencies, and the public.

Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited RN program.
- Completion of a 64-hour course or two 40-hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire.
- Minimum of one year acute care experience.
- Current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by end of orientation.
- Current ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of hire.
- Registered Nurse credential from a compact state or relevant board.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- SANE-A and SANE-P certifications.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Effective communication with sensitivity to cultural, educational, and age diversity.
- Ability to remain calm under stress.
- Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach.
Physical Requirements:
Medium work involving occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent lifting up to 10 lbs. Standing or walking 26-50% of the day, with or without accommodation.
