Job description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SAP ABAP Team Lead to manage, mentor, and guide our team of SAP developers. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8–10 years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development and a proven track record of successfully leading technical teams through full project lifecycles. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into effective, scalable SAP solutions.


Duties and Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, manage, and mentor a team of SAP ABAP developers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Conduct code reviews, ensure adherence to development standards and best practices, and provide technical guidance and support. Setting Direction and Goals: This involves establishing a clear vision, defining team objectives, and ensuring every employee understands their role in achieving those goals. Goals should be specific and measurable to provide a sense of direction. Communication: Fostering open, clear, and honest communication is fundamental. This includes conveying expectations, listening actively to concerns and ideas, and ensuring transparency around goal setting and decisions. Performance Management: Managers set performance standards, provide regular and constructive feedback (both positive recognition and areas for development), monitor progress, and address performance issues promptly. Employee Development and Growth: A key part of the role is to champion employee development. This means identifying strengths and weaknesses, providing learning and training opportunities, and mentoring employees to help them reach their full potential and build new skills. Project Management & Delivery: Oversee the technical delivery of ABAP projects and enhancements, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and meet high-quality standards. Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively. Technical Design & Development: Drive the technical design, development, testing, and implementation of complex SAP solutions using various ABAP technologies, including:

Classic ABAP (reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms - RICEF)

ABAP Objects (OO ABAP)

SAP HANA-specific development (CDS views, AMDPs)

Web Dynpro, Fiori/UI5 integration points, and workflow technologies


Business Collaboration: Collaborate closely with functional consultants, business analysts, and end-users to understand complex requirements and translate them into robust technical specifications and solutions.


Architecture & Strategy: Define and enforce ABAP development standards, methodologies, and quality assurance processes. Contribute to the overall SAP technical architecture and strategy, recommending innovative solutions and improvements.


Troubleshooting & Support: Act as the primary escalation point for critical production issues, leading troubleshooting efforts and ensuring timely resolution of complex technical problems.


Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all technical designs, code changes, and processes are thoroughly documented and comply with internal governance and audit requirements.


Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 8–10 years of hands-on, verifiable experience in SAP ABAP development. Proven experience in a team lead, project lead, or technical management role, demonstrating strong leadership and mentoring capabilities. Deep expertise in core SAP modules (e.g., FI/CO, SD, MM, PP) and extensive knowledge of modern ABAP programming techniques, including S/4HANA development paradigms. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; master’s degree or SAP certifications are a plus.
