This role supports ongoing application development activities, resolves production issues, implements enhancements driven by business and legislative requirements, and collaborates closely with Client business units, ITSD leadership, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Senior Application Developer is expected to work independently on complex tasks, follow established ITSD processes, and ensure high-quality, secure, and reliable application functionality. ROLE SUMMARY Client is seeking a Senior Application Developer to provide maintenance, enhancement, and support for critical client applications. This role supports ongoing application development activities, resolves production issues, implements enhancements driven by business and legislative requirements, and collaborates closely with Client business units, ITSD leadership, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Senior Application Developer is expected to work independently on complex tasks, follow established ITSD processes, and ensure high-quality, secure, and reliable application functionality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintain and enhance DESE applications, including ASBR, Core Data, FNS, MCDS, ACES, Educator Certification, and Child Care Data Systems. • Analyze, design, code, test, and implement application changes using arenaflex-based technologies. • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application, database, and batch processing issues logged in Azure DevOps (ADO). • Collaborate with DESE SMEs to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions. • Perform unit and system testing prior to release and support user acceptance testing (UAT). • Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and SSRS reports. • Provide Level of Effort (LOE) estimates for assigned ADO work items. • Support deployments, monitor batch jobs, and respond to critical production issues within defined SLA timeframes. • Participate in meetings, status reporting, and coordination activities as directed by the ITSD Application Development Supervisor. REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • 5+ years of application development experience using C#, VB ASP.NET, MVC, JavaScript, CSS, and Bootstrap. • 5+ years of experience with arenaflex SQL Server, SQL, Azure DevOps (ADO), and Visual Studio (2015 2022). • 2+ years of experience developing and maintaining SSRS reports. • Experience working in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, preferably within State government or the public sector. • Familiarity with structured issue tracking, testing workflows, and release management using ADO. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with ServiceNow. • Prior experience supporting large, mission-critical government applications. • Experience with batch job creation, monitoring, and scheduling. WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS • 100% remote; all work must be performed within the United States. • Standard working hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM Central Time. • Availability for occasional after-hours support with prior approval. • Compliance with DESE and ITSD security, confidentiality, and background/fingerprint requirements. REPORTING & GOVERNANCE • Reports to the ITSD-DESE Application Development Supervisor. • All work items, estimates, resolutions, and documentation must be tracked in ADO. • Weekly status reporting required using the ITSD Status Report template.
