Position Overview We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Specialist, Legal Technologist to join our growing Practice Innovation team. This role will bridge the gap between legal practice and technology, supporting lawyers and business professionals in adopting, implementing, and optimizing technological solutions that drive efficiency, improve client service, and support digital transformation across the firm. As a key member of our legal innovation initiatives, you will work directly with legal teams, IT, knowledge management, and operations to assess needs, identify opportunities, and deploy appropriate technology tools that include generative AI, machine learning, document automation, and data analytics platforms. Key Accountabilities • Collaborate with legal and business services teams to evaluate workflows and recommend technology-enabled process improvements. • Support end-users in leveraging AI systems by tailoring tools to specific use cases such as selecting appropriate AI solutions, crafting effective prompts, and designing workflows for optimal results. • Leverage deep technical skills to develop advanced legal technology solutions using a wide variety of applications and tools including generative AI, low-code platforms, document automation and transaction management tools, and the arenaflex 365 suite of applications, among others. • Lead system analysis, requirements gathering, software evaluations, design, and implementation planning for automation technologies including practice efficiency tools and AI solutions. • Develop, maintain and work with databases of legal and business information to support application development, streamline legal processes and improve data-driven decision-making. • Present concepts, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders to support engagement and alignment. • Enhance and optimize matter intake and docketing tools and processes, ensuring seamless integration with broader systems and workflows. • Assess and validate legal technology tools to ensure they meet firm objectives, making necessary adjustments to improve performance and effectiveness. • Lead change management initiatives to drive adoption of legal technology solutions, including working with Learning & Development team to develop training programs, communicate benefits to stakeholders, and proactively address resistance or barriers. • Liaise with software vendors to evaluate products, coordinate demos, training, support and manage ongoing relationships. • Provide hands-on support and ongoing guidance to legal and business services teams in using innovative legal technology tools, including on client matters covering training, troubleshooting, and user support to ensure effective adoption and utilization. • Stay current on emerging legal technologies and industry trends and evaluate their potential impact on the firm and our clients. Attributes & Experience • Post-secondary degree in Business/Information Systems or Law or equivalent experience to successfully complete the essential requirements of the role. • 5+ years of experience in a law firm, including a minimum of 2 years focused on AI technology or practice improvement. • Strong background in legal practice and technology, with a passion for leveraging technological solutions such as workflow automation technology and AI, to improve processes and outcomes. • Technologically proficient with significant experience using generative AI applications, and platforms with AI components • Proficient in data analysis, management and reporting, with experience using tools such as SQL, Excel, and PowerBI. • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite with a demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies. • Experience applying innovation principles and methods such as design thinking, process mapping, agile/lean, prototyping, and change management. • Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with a creative, strategic, and forward-thinking mindset. • Excellent client service orientation combined with the ability to manage multiple client needs at the same time. • A keen interest and aptitude for AI technology and exploring, understanding and troubleshooting new applications and their applicability to a range of legal challenges. • Strong project management skills combined with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written, oral and presentation) skills. • Strong collaboration and consultation skills. Additional information This position is part of our hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week.
