Primary Purpose Support Director of Communications in advising and counseling executive leaders within the applicable company with respect to communications issues, strategies and tactics. Oversee staff of communicators in execution and management of external communications and outreach to support all aspects of the company’s operation. Manage assigned communications projects and monitor issues within the respective region and support reputation management initiatives. Assign and manage communications resources as required in support of the Director of Communications. Represent and back up the Director of Communications in their absence. Additional duties include reviewing employee performance; assigning, critiquing and editing communication materials; coaching and feedback; motivating and setting direction; providing oversight; and integrating communications. Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). This position must sit out of our Philadelphia -PA, Newark - DE or Mays Landing - NJ office. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and execute strategic communications plans and media relations to support business objectives
  • Implement and manage communication vehicles and approaches in support of Director of Communications
  • Assist Director of Communications in advising and counseling executives on external communications issues and activities affecting the company.
  • Fulfill managerial responsibilities regarding assigned staff (e.g. Employment, Compensation, Performance Evaluation, etc.) and participate as a key manager in career development and business planning.
  • Execute external outreach: ensure strong press relations, ensure community outreach plans are implemented as required.

Requirements

  • 4-year relevant degree and a minimum of 10 or more years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • In lieu of degree, 12-15 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
  • A high level of self-motivation and independence will be critical.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinking ability; self-motivation; organizational sensitivity.
  • Excellent follow through capability; demands high level of performance from self and others.
  • Demonstrated managerial experience.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in communications, journalism or related discipline.
