Job Summary: Blavity is launching the Travel Noire mobile app and is seeking a Community Manager (Contract) to support community growth, engagement, and programming. This role will focus on driving meaningful conversations within the app, serving as a direct point of connection between the Travel Noire audience and internal teams. This is a traditional app community management role centered on relationship-building, responsiveness, and live programming, not social media posting. The Community Manager will support monthly live events, respond directly to users in-app, and surface insights to help shape the evolving community experience. If successful, there is an opportunity for this role to be expanded to include other app community management. This is a 1099 contract position reporting to the Chief of Staff with strong collaboration with the Travel Noire content/marketing team. Contractors are required to provide all necessary equipment for the role, including but not limited to laptop computers, cell phones, and any other electronic devices. Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day engagement within the Travel Noire app, including DMs, questions, comments, and community discussions. • Respond directly to community members, fostering trust, participation, and ongoing dialogue. • Monitor in-app activity to identify what users are engaging with, curious about, and requesting. • Drive engagement metrics tied to sign-ins, downloads, and active participation. • Curate one live community event per month, including: • Organizing event topics and positioning them for the community • Booking speakers using existing topic and speaker lists • Using Posh for event marketing • Scheduling, hosting, and recording Zoom events • Partnering with Marketing Team to promote events externally • Maintain organized documentation of community feedback, engagement trends, and event outcomes. • Share community insights and feedback with internal stakeholders to inform programming and product decisions. Qualifications: • Education: • B.A. in communications, marketing, media, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Required Experience: • Must love travel and actively travel domestically and internationally • 2 years of experience in community management, audience engagement, or membership-based platforms • Experience managing in-app or platform-native communities (mobile apps, forums, or similar environments) • Strong written communication skills and comfort engaging directly with users in real time Preferred Experience: • Experience supporting app launches or early-stage community growth • Familiarity with live virtual events and community-driven programming Technologies: • Comfort using Zoom, arenaflex Suite, and community or engagement platforms • Ability to learn and navigate new tools quickly Details: • The hourly rate for this position is $35 per hour. • This role is expected to require approximately 5–8 hours per week, with room to grow with app growth • This is a contracted, remote, U.S.-based role. • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Candidates must be available to work in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone a few hours a day but can mostly be done on your own schedule.
