The Vice President (VP) of Data Governance will be responsible for developing and executing the data governance strategy to ensure the quality, integrity, security, and compliance of the organization's data assets. This leadership role will oversee the implementation of policies, frameworks, and processes that ensure the organization's data is managed effectively across all departments. The VP of Data Governance will collaborate with senior leadership, data stewards, IT, compliance, legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure data governance practices support business objectives, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation. This is a Full Time, remote, Vice President of Data Governance role. Responsibilities • Lead the development and execution of the data governance strategy across the organization. • Work closely with senior leadership to align data governance goals with overall business objectives. • Establish and maintain data governance frameworks and best practices for data management, quality, security, and compliance. • Build a culture of data governance across departments, ensuring awareness and adherence to governance practices. • Serve as the primary point of contact for data governance, providing strategic oversight and guidance. • Design and implement a comprehensive data governance framework covering data quality, data ownership, data stewardship, and data privacy. • Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistent data management practices. • Establish data classification, access control, and retention policies in alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. • Ensure data governance is integrated into all stages of the data lifecycle, from acquisition to archiving. • Oversee data quality initiatives, ensuring data is accurate, complete, and consistent across systems and platforms. • Establish data quality metrics, monitoring systems, and reporting mechanisms to identify and address data issues proactively. • Lead the implementation of data cleansing and validation processes to improve data integrity. • Ensure that data governance practices comply with relevant data protection laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA). • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage data-related risks, including privacy and security risks. • Oversee the implementation of data access controls and auditing mechanisms to prevent data misuse and breaches. • Keep abreast of evolving data-related regulations and recommend changes to policies and practices as needed. • Partner with business leaders, IT, data scientists, and data analysts to ensure data governance practices support business needs and objectives. • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure consistency and accuracy in data reporting and analytics. • Work closely with data stewards and other operational teams to implement data governance practices across various data domains. • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by recommending and implementing new technologies, tools, and methodologies for data governance. • Track industry trends and emerging technologies in data governance and management, ensuring the organization stays ahead of the curve. • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing data governance team, providing guidance and development opportunities. • Foster a collaborative and data-driven culture within the team and across the organization. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's or MBA preferred). • 15+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields • Proven experience in developing and executing data governance strategies across large, complex organizations. • Experience with regulatory compliance and data protection laws such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc. • Strong understanding of data management, data quality, metadata management, and data privacy principles. • Knowledge of data management tools, platforms, and technologies (e.g., data catalogs, data quality tools, metadata management tools). • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills. • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership. • Excellent analytical skills with a deep understanding of data governance and data management practices. • Familiarity with data architecture, cloud platforms, and modern data analytics tools. • Expertise in risk management and regulatory compliance related to data. • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence organizational change. • Detail-oriented with a focus on data integrity and compliance. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex challenges. • A visionary leader with a passion for driving innovation and best practices in data governance.
