Positions (see a complete list below) have been declared open in the Weber School District. These positions are stipend positions, which are an at-will positions. Stipend positions are renewed each semester and paid according to student enrollment/completion. All work for this position is done remotely outside of any other contracted WSD employment hours.

Job Overview:


Under the direction of the school principal and the Online K-12 Teaching and Learning Facilitator, the online teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students. They will maintain an original, high-quality, flexible, online class environment favorable for learning and personal growth based on the Utah Core Standards, Board of Education adopted guidelines, and Weber Online criteria. The online teacher will continually refine course content, measure student progress, and adapt the curriculum to meet students’ needs. Online teachers will establish effective rapport with students and motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education. They will also effectively and professionally communicate in a timely manner with students, families, and colleagues.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach the assigned subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education. Standards should be selected first, and then coursework designed to meet these standards.
  • Utilize Canvas to deliver a 100% online course designed according to the Weber Online criteria and policies.
    • Develop effective original online courses, including up-to-date content, functioning links, original videos, high-quality images, and text for lessons that are specifically geared to online learning.
    • Create assignments that focus on process over product so that student learning is evident and requires more than just reading and typing responses.
    • Create assessments aligned to assignments that require students to prove their learning.
    • Use approved WSD AI resources to enhance engagement and enrich student learning.
    • Ensure the course is organized and includes instructions for tool use and assignment/assessment submission.
    • Ensure courses give students control over pace and place, while still maintaining high quality and rigor.
    • Proctor assessments as needed.
  • Continually refine course content in response to student experience, new knowledge regarding online learning and pedagogy, and WSD Online leadership feedback.
  • Measure students' progress. Adjust Tier 1 teaching methods.
  • Provide Tier 2 support as needed.
  • Adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs
  • Evaluate students' academic growth and keep appropriate records.
  • Prepare progress reports, midterms, and final grades according to WSD timelines.
  • Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the online classroom.
  • Act as a mentor to students to assist them in making plans for course completion and tracking course progress.
  • Communicate and work with others effectively
    • Use a variety of communication methods to reach students, including email, Canvas written messages, Canvas video messages, and assignment comments.
    • Weekly asynchronous contact with students is expected through Canvas.
    • Respond to students' messages and questions within 24 business hours.
    • Give feedback on assignments and assessments within 48 business hours.
    • Meet with parents through conferences and other means to discuss academic progress and/or to more fully understand the online school.
    • Communicate professionally and cooperate with other staff members
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school, staff, district staff, and patrons.
  • Engage in professional improvement activities
    • Attend required school and district professional development
    • Attend virtual faculty meetings
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Conform to district policies, including attendance, work hours, work location, absences, and evaluations.


Physical Requirements –
Not limited to the following:

  • Remain in a stationary position 70% of the time.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and printer.
  • Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of the State Core Curriculum and Board of Education adopted guides.
  • Knowledge of online teaching pedagogy and course design.
  • Valid Utah Teaching/Educator License and relevant endorsement(s).
  • Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved a cleared criminal background check.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
